Latest Review :   "Probably 1 of the worst meals I've seen presented at a restaurant in my life. Sausages and mash with garden peas , I asked specifically for mushy peas . 2 steaks ordered came out well done when they were ordered as medium rare and to top it all off we waited 1 hrs and 15 minutes for meals to be served. The mushy peas never arrived even after we mentioned it..and the steaks were well done. "

Latest Review :   "We stayed for 1 night ( luckily ) room 4 which is directly above the back entrance & smoking area : really noisy. We had no idea there was a disco on until 1am ? , we;ve stayed in many pubs B & Bs etc. this is the worst ever. Stayed in better hostels The room was cold and to be honest needed a thorough clean , stains on walls , radiators carpets and smelled musty. There was also constant noise from a AC or refrigeration unit just outside of the window. Entrance to rooms dark and dingy."

Latest Review :   "Two people in my party ordered a chicken roast dinner. We expected more than a tiny chicken leg on the bone for £14.50. We expected carved chicken as you would with beef. Terrible value for money. The childrens scampi and chips was such a small portion it was a joke. We even considered ordering extra portion of chips as it was so small. No one came to check on the food order or offer drinks. I will not be returning here again."

Latest Review :   "The table looked like a small child had set the cutlery out. The floor was soaking wet, why it had been washed just before opening at midday is anyone’s guess, despite this, the floor was filthy. The place was generally grubby. I have eaten here many times before and it has been lovely, but something has changed. Main courses were over cooked, the service was dreadful. We had a midday sitting and were served our desert at 2.45 the guests arriving for the 3.00pm sitting were starting to leave."

Latest Review :   "Visited on Sunday 4 family members, we had mixed grill, fish and chips, meat pie and chips, and chicken wings. All the food was really good. The staff were friendly, and professional. The pub has recently been renovated. It is nicely designed and comfortable. There is now a very large out door seating area with TV and bar access. I would reccomened a visit here, we will definately be returning. They also serve Sunday dinners which looked very good and is on my list to try."

Latest Review :   "Really disappointed. Food was inedible. The hot chilli nachos were really cold so we sent it back. They just warned it up in microwave, it was still cold and now soggy. I ordered a garlic naan bread, it was just a dry shop bought one with cold unmelted grated cheese on it and no garlic, not even warmed up. I sent it back to be heated up and it came back still cold and the cheese was still unmelted. The halloumi fries were cold n came with no dip. And a dried up burger for our son."

Latest Review :   "Visited here April for a meal and I’m sat still here waiting to be served. Staff not very helpful didn’t even bother to ask how the meal was. The mash potato was the size of a baby’s hand, the Yorkshire pudding nearly broken my teeth, 2 small roast potato’s on the plate and 1 skinny carrot. Food was cold and I’m still hungry now it’s like a kids portion. Not good at all."

Latest Review :   "The plate meat pie was microwaved although it tasted lovely the pastry was inedible and raw on the bottom, the veg clearly microwaved and yet the broccoli was raw...even the new potatoes were ruined because they were over microwaved! The first salmon that arrived was raw...the replacement had been nuked in the MICROWAVE!! Chef it would have taken two minutes to freshly cook a piece of salmon in a skillet!!"

Latest Review :   " I visited here as a party of 4 last week and I was eager to show this place off to my friends. But what has happened!? On entering Thwaites pub we were greeted with the smell of rotting bins and an entrance full of fag ends and dirt! The place Is absolutely filthy, the toilets being some of the worst I’ve ever been in! A drinks order was taken on arrival but we waited 20 minutes to be served beer that tasted of chemicals and wine in a dirty glass. "

Aztec Hotel really bad.

Since the truth is that I am not happy with the hotel, I never find anyone at the reception and even if I call, they do not pick up the phone, yesterday I went to the bar with my card credit card and they told me that they couldn't give me anything because the card was not registered in the room, which doesn't make sense because it's a bar open to the public and I was paying with my card, not putting the money in the room account.

Excellent experience

Good, fresh food well cooked, great value for money. Attentive service but not fussy and very well kept beer! As I found out later that they are award winners. The log fire was lovely and cosy and certainly contributed to the warm friendly pub. We will definitely be back, and not just for our 10% discount.

Really disappointing

Unfortunately we were really disappointed with the quality and service. The meals arrived promptly but both mine and my partner’s main course weren’t cooked properly. In my case the chips served with fish were under cooked and inedible. My partner ordered a mushroom sandwich was overcooked to a sloppy tasteless melee. Fish and chips is usually a pub food staple and whilst the fish served wasn’t as bad as the chips it wasn’t great either and it shouldn’t be so difficult to get right.

Tired and overpriced

We paid £338 to stay here (£165 B&B and £8 parking). The bar, restaurant and courtyard are modern and inviting but as soon as you climb the stairs to the bedrooms, the cracks begin to appear (literally!). Our room was dark with only a small window and minimum lighting. The bathroom ceiling had mildew and the paint was peeling off. The sink had age lines and the internal doors were knocked and worm.

Thats our first last time we will come here.

We visited as a family and we were not impressed. The layout is not accommodating nor warm, the food was not great. I personally ordered the Haloumi starter which lacked flavour and texture and for mains I ordered the chicken and ham pie which tasted odd and had perfectly squared chicken pieces in a white sauce with chunky pieces of bacon; similar to that you get a KG of for a few quid along with a mass produced pastry lid.

Family meal

We went up after the refurb and yes what a difference the deco and the place looks amazing well done to the new tenants and all the staff. We ordered food which the Chef Colin always delivers and the quality is amazing. Would recommend to anyone.

Not good at all.

Rooms quite basic, a bit tired looking and small, no fridge. Bar and breakfast service not great, slow, got things wrong, we had to cancel evening drink order after waiting over 20 mins or would have been late for restaurant. One member of staff put cutlery for breakfast on outside table where we were eating by holding the ‘eating’ end of spoons, knives etc. Considering it’s AA rating and price it was disappointing

Home cooked food at its best

This is a lovely little pub, with lovely home cooked food. The menu has plenty for everyone, and there is a specials board each day. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. . Whilst there is a large car park across road, it can be a bit tricky crossing the road at bust times.

Overpriced old rusty rotten hotel room for £250

Sofa bed was horrendously inadequate. huge mirror stuck above the main bed, which I was nervous of sleeping under, especially as a boy was killed near us from a large mirror falling off a wall and crushing him. woken up middle of the night by drunk guests parting in the halls, no staff to assist with the noise/behaviour. drinks very over priced, £10 for a glass of Prosecco. service at breakfast was non existent. so expensive for a grimy hotel room.

Gorgeous country pub

Just what you needed on a miserable Misty cold day. Roaring fire and cosy oldie worldy decor. Lots of parking. Very pleasant staff. The fish butty ( on a brioche bun) & mushy peas also with skinny fries. The beer battered haddock was beautiful. The goosnargh chicken BLT on brioche was also spot on and will definitely return. Highly recommended

NEVER AGAIN !

To our surprise the table behind (that had ordered the exact same meals) received their food before us! We had to wait an additional 10 minutes for our food to arrive, which was okay but nothing to shout about. We were then asked if we’d like to look at the dessert menu which we accepted, after 15 minutes of waiting for them to come I had to ask the manager for them !! Very poor all round from all the staff ! Unimpressed with the dissatisfying service and will NOT RETURN.
